Steam Radiator Tips.

It got down to 63° last night, so we cranked up the furnace this morning to warm the house. I've been meaning to gather a list of links on caring for steam heating systems. In no particular order: Bleeding, shimming, gurgling and clangs, Steam radiator tips, and troubleshooting a steam distribution system.

Flickr Video.

Don't know why I didn't think of this before, but I added my first video to Flickr and replaced the shit YouTube version I'd posted earlier. Much better quality and embedding flexibility. I'll have to go back and dig out the original video files from my other two time-lapses and upload them too.

Lehman meltdown

Paul Krugman in today's NYT: Financial Russian Roulette. I say, fuck Lehman. It will most likely suck for everybody when the consequences are felt, but I and my offspring shouldn't be on the hook for the failure of a few assholes and their poor business practices.

"...if institutions need to be rescued like banks, they should be regulated like banks — why were we so unprepared for this latest shock?"

Taxpayers aren't an insurance policy; that's what the FDIC is for.

Classic Tracks

Classic Tracks– did you ever want to know the background story to Everybody Wants To Rule The World? (It was actually just a filler song). Pump It Up was recorded entirely live. Heart of Gold was cut live in two hours. My only complaint: They don't have enough songs! (via)

Update: here are some more stories.
